ADVICE TO ELECTORS -- 2 July 2016 Federal Election
The 2016 legislated change in Senate Voting arrangements favoured The Greens party.
Voters who wanted to ensure that their Senate ballot paper did not direct support to The Greens party were encouraged by AFHE to fill out all squares on the Senate ballot paper whether voting above the line (ATL) or below the line (BTL).
An ATL vote of only 1 to 6 would have limited opposition to The Greens party, enabling The Greens party to accumulate more votes towards an additional Senate seat and greater control of the Senate.
